XTC
One of my favorite TV shows years ago was this religious broadcast that would show music videos and discuss why they were sinful. Mostly, they reveiwed death metal bands whom no had ever heard of with names to the effect of "Grandma Raping Fetus Eaters." Sometimes they'd pick on someone like Depeche Mode, who in one song, said there was no heaven or hell, so therefore that were Satanists. [?] Of course, anyone who knows XTC knows "Dear God," which these guys had a field day with. If you remember the video, it takes place in a tree; which the hosts said was to represent the cross (but looks nothing like one) and that the people who were in the tree were Christians. Then when the lead singer, supposedly Satan to them (because he is wearing black clothes and sunglasses), bangs on the tree and knocks the people out, he is making the Christians fall from their faith into his domain. Interestingly enough the song says "Won't believe in heaven or heaven, no saints, no sinners, the Devil as well." Then again, religious people aren't known for being too grounded in actuality-- just God n' stuff. Still the same, "Dear God" is a fun little iconoclastic song, and the ablum Skylarking, from which it came, is a classic of modern rock's golden era before the genre became the insipid "alternative music" we know today.
