True story: As I flipped on MTV one day and was watching for a few minutes, one thought repeatedly came to mind: "Wow... This is a really long 7-Up commercial." To my surprise it turned out to be an actual music video! Ironically, I felt like having a 7-Up when the video was over.

G. LOVE AND SPECIAL SAUCE
I was introduced to the group via "The Late Show with Conan O'Brien" and at the end of "Blues Music" I was an instant fan-- I spent the very next day having to go to five different music stores to find the band's disc; and it has been a part of my life since then. In a band complete with string bass, the coolest instrument ever to exist, G. Love's lazy-tongued bluesy stylings represent some of the freshest new music of the decade; A decade which has yielded more bad music than any other in history (even more than the 70's!!). Not everyone is going to like this band, but as they are one of my favorites, I implore all to give them a serious listen (preferably with a tall glass of lemonade).
GERARDO
Trivia note: After his "Mo' Ritmo" album, Gerardo had other releases! Hopefully he becomes a two-hit wonder, I'd hate to think the crowning achievement in anyone's life would be "Rico Suave," as good as it was bad.
STAN GETZ
While my original discovery of bossa nova was (like several of my best discoveries) accidental, Getz [and Jobim] made me an addict of the genre. He is one of the few cases where I forced myself to stop incessantly listening to his work for fear of getting sick of it-- but can't help it. He's my favorite tenor sax player, his smoothness and majestic qualities amazing; He and Hawkins are among the most sensuous sax players I've ever heard. Readily available on Verve for cheap, his music is best listened to after midnight-- or at least, that's the easiest way to fall in love with it, anyway.
GOLDIE
Perhaps it was an error to listen to the opinions of people I admire, because when the Chemical Brothers said they didn't like Goldie's music, that was one strike; And when I heard his rather boring track on the Amp compliation, that was strike two. Yet when his Saturnz Rings CD came out, I was pleasantly surprised that I really liked it; especially for paying a mere $7 for this two disc set. Disc one is what can best be desribed as a "space opera," while the second disc is comprised of an excellent collection of drum and bass. Give it a try. Ignore others. Trust no one.

Note to Mr. Green: Okay, okay, so you were undersexed in that whole Jason / Luke thing, but can't you find some other way to vent frustration other than recording a rap album? Please, just stick to your bad TV programming; Do not, repeat DO NOT, attempt to make anymore rap albums. Now put the mike down and step away before you get hurt. (And tell your pal Kamau Halloway the same-- I'd really rather see him acting again.)
